Dr. Matthew D. Kangas hails from the state of Michigan, where he grew up in the suburbs outside of Detroit. Dr. Kangas earned his bachelor of science degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics at the University of Detroit Mercy, graduating summa cum laude. While pursuing his undergraduate degrees, Dr. Kangas served as treasurer of Eta Kappa Nu (electrical engineering honor society) and president of Tau Beta Pi (engineering honor society). Upon graduation, he worked as an environmental durability project engineer before pursuing medical school. In 2007, he began medical school at Michigan State University, where his spark for pain medicine was born.
